Innovation consultancy Accenture and tech provider Amadeus joined forces to re-invent to the airlines industry. They wanted a creative way launch the Alliance — one that would showcase their commitment to innovation, build relationships with key airline executives, and bring new, forward-thinking partners to the table.

To launch this partnership, SkiftX created Air Pitch, a startup competition to discover the next generation of industry disruptors.

The winner would receive a trip to the Alliance Innovation Center in Dublin to receive expert guidance from Accenture and Amadeus during a week-long design/development sprint to implement the winner’s solution into an airline partner’s tech stack.

The full-year program came to life across multiple event and digital content activations, including a custom microsite and video series featuring insights from leading airline experts, all designed for the dual purpose of driving startup applications and building brand awareness throughout the industry.

In all, over 50 startups applied. Three were selected to pitch live at Skift Global Forum 2018 front of 500+ industry executives, including a panel of judges comprised of leaders from American Airlines, Etihad, and Icelandair.

The Pitch

 The competition had over 50 startups apply. In the final round of the competition the startups Mekl.io, Volantio, and Wonder each gave five-minute pitches to — and fielded tough questions from — a panel of airline-industry executives from Aegean Airlines, American Airlines, Etihad, and Icelandair in front of a crowd of 500+ travel insiders at Skift Global Forum.
